A pizzeria is a building with ovens in it, and when the floor under the ovens goes, so does the business.
That is roughly what happened on Main Street. A crawl space collapse took out the ovens at the Pizzeria of Babylon Village and closed the shop for about a month.
It reopened Tuesday, August 17.
Co-owner Cliff Weinstein said the leadership team sat down the day after the collapse with two priorities, in order: do not lose a single employee, and get back open fast.
They managed both. That first one is the harder of the two — a month is long enough for a kitchen crew to find work somewhere else and not come back.
